The courses which the Academy offers are Level 1, Level 1A, AED, Level 2, Level 3 (Instructor training), Additional.


Level 1 (Core Course – 16 hours) – Topics included
  1. Accident Procedure
  2. Basic life support including CPR
  3. Choking and care of the unconscious casualty
  4. Management and treatment of wounds and bleeding
  5. Management and treatment of fractures, strains, sprains and dislocations
  6. Common medical emergencies
  7. Basic casualty management and care
  8. Equipment/kits and their use

The emphasis relates to potential incidents and challenges in sporting environments. These include land and water based, low and medium altitude, indoor and outdoor, natural and synthetic, formal and informal environs.

Target Participants – Anyone with the responsibility for providing immediate “Emergency Care” at any sporting event or training. Cost : €150 per candidate approx.  Max. 16 candidates.


Level 1(A) Core Course - 8 hours
Casualty on a Hillside
Paul Teaching
This is for those with acceptable existing knowledge/experience and technical expertise e.g. physiotherapists, doctors and those who wish to refresh having previously done a level 1 course.
Cost : €150 per candidate approx.  Max. 16 candidates

Level 1 – Optional A.E.D. Module – 4 hours

Additional / optional module on the use of “fully advisory” Automatic External Defibrillators.
Open to: Anyone who has completed a level 1 Core Course
Cost : Available upon application

AED
 

 
 
Level 2 (Advanced Casualty Management Course- 8 hours) – Topics included
  1. Airway Management
  2. The use of supplementary oxygen
  3. The use of A.E.D.
  4. Techniques of immobilisation

Open only to those who have completed level 1 or 1(A) course as above. The Level 2 course is designed to offer continuity of skills, development, knowledge and understanding from level 1 course.

Level 3 (Instructor Training)

Topics include

  1. Technical knowledge training
  2. Teaching/coaching assessment skills
  3. Administration
  4. Technology & Equipment
The duration of Instructor training is subject to a process of “accreditation of prior learning”, however the novice Instructor will be catered for. Open only to those who have completed a level 1 or 1(A) course. A limited number of Instructors will be developed, subject to demand/geography and to ensure high quality.

Successful candidates from the level 3 course will be able to conduct level 1 and 1(A) course. Candidates will during their training compile an evidence portfolio which will be matched to Training and Assessment standards. Cost : Between €500 an €2,500 per candidate.   + Portfolio Manuals €TBA each

Advanced Courses and courses to meet specific group needs can also be provided.
The above costs do not include a venue.
Level 1 -AED module and Level 2 courses will only be taught by the Director of Training and/or other designated instructors as agreed with the Director of Training and the Medical Directors of the Academy.
